KFC, the first international fast food franchise restaurant in Suriname opened in September 1996. This has had substantial influence on local dining and set the standard for the QSR in Suriname. Cirkel Group’s main revenue generator was established in early 2001 by the name of Cirkel Direct Sales. The operations utilize Cirkel Group’s international network to supply basic food commodities to wholesalers. The main lines include frozen whole chicken, chicken leg quarters, flour, sugar, vegetable oil, salt, split peas, milk powder, canned sardines, diapers, toilet paper, cured beef and pork tails. Starting with 900 TEUs (20 ft equal containers) annually, CDS increased its business to 1,800 TEUs presently, which made this business unit the major food/grocery importing company in Suriname.
